Written response to Roland Barthes’ ‘Camera Lucida’
The reading starts of by questioning who is more responsible for the
invention of photography, Painters or chemists. The reading seems to think
chemists are a bit more responsible and I agree. Without realizing that silver
halogens were sensitive to light it would not have happened. Because of
photography people are able to stay around in images after their death. In this
sense, photographs are certificates of presence. This reading was interesting
and talked about more abstract views and ideas of photography.
